Julien Vallée & Eve Duhamel | High Class. Lo-Fi. And no kidding. | Surrealist Directing Duo (Canada)
Being different and unique has never been a bad thing. This is what Julien Vallée and Eve Duhamel prove time and time again in their exciting and unexpected work that twists reality through visual storytelling. Before they met, Julien was a graphic designer, while Eve was a visual artist – but they both shared the same passion: manifesting creative visions into material objects and spaces.
The phrase that they use to describe their work is “High Class. Lo-Fi. And no kidding” – no kidding indeed because their signature playful style can be seen throughout their work for some of the world’s most iconic, sought-after brands, including Apple, Google, Samsung, Hermès, Coca-Cola – and even Katy Perry.
They continually surprise and delight the viewer with complex narratives that combine high-end production techniques with their own poetic brand of design and art direction. It is almost unbelievable the way they take mundane and everyday things, put their surrealist and creative spin and turn them into something totally unique. When looking at their work, it makes people think “How is that even possible?!” Thankfully, we know where the answers lie – at the centre stage of the DK festival.
The Word for Work is Play
Through this lively and energetic presentation, film directors Vallée Duhamel invite the audience into an engaging and colourful visual world. They share a revisited approach to work that allows for more experimentation, trial and error. Associated with Neo-surrealism, their production explores quirky situations, playful realities, and the unexpected. Taking everyday objects and random life circumstances and giving them a surprising twist, they open the doors to their artistic process by sharing several behind-the-scenes and original pieces. Lighthearted and energetic, this talk will appeal to people interested in the combination of art and advertising. It will also charm anyone who wants to make their work their own mental playground.
