The next generation of the communications industry amazed the jury with their „Niti jedan biciklist nikad“ project, winning the Young Lions Grand Prix. The competition showcased young Croatian talents as well as raised awareness of a sustainable lifestyle.
Young Lions is a competition where the next generation of the communications industry goes head-to-head to win the title of the best young creatives. The Grand Prix winners receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent Croatia in the global competition Cannes Young Lions – and this year the prestigious title belongs to Dora Kasun and Valentina Mavretić from Señor!
There were 74 young lions competing in five categories: Design, Digital, PR, Media and Print. The winners in the Digital category are Bruno Bartolić and Rene Filipović (Convergent Media Group Croatia), in the Media category the winners are Ana-Marija Žarak and Ivana Kršić (Imago Ogilvy), while, in addition to winning the Grand Prix, Dora Kasun and Valentina Mavretić (Señor) won the Print category with their Niti jedan biciklist nikad project.
The finalists in the Digital category are Jerko Mihaljević and Adrian Rovina (404) as well as Maja Adžaga and Filip Vdović (Promosapiens), while the finalists in the PR category are Filip Latin and Mario Štrok (Imago Ogilvy).
In addition to the competition organisers. Nikola Žinić (Bruketa&Žinić&Grey), chairman of the Young Lions 2021 jury, has also congratulated the winners and all the competitors: I am glad that my initial thesis has been proven right – the best ideas develop under pressure. We had several excellent projects to judge, and I would like to extend my thanks to all the jury members for a highly productive discussion about every single project. The winning project was fresh and dynamic, it works in the given context and fits the client’s brief. It has a modular character, meaning that it is constantly in motion, just like cyclists. I thank all the competitors for their ideas. We set our judging criteria very high, so even being a finalist is truly an outstanding accomplishment. I congratulate the winning teams and wish the Señor team much luck in the Cannes competition, which presents a unique opportunity to learn, show off creative muscles and compare one’s strengths against the best young talents in the world.
The Young Lions powered by Iskon competition has its softer side as well – the client, whose brief the teams are solving, is always a humanitarian non-profit organisation or a civil society organisation. All creative solutions produced by the teams are handed to the client free of charge at the end of the competition. Iskon, this year’s partner, and the organisers selected Sindikat biciklista as the client, an association with a decade-long tradition of advocating for sustainable mobility by making cycling, walking and using public transport an everyday choice. They focus on all aspects of life affected by traffic nowadays, such as pollution, traffic noise, road accidents etc.

Iva Pregernik Jungić, Head of Marketing Communications at Iskon and member of the Young Lions jury, said: We love creative ideas, originality, passion, cyclists and urban culture, so we were extremely honoured to be a part of this lovely and important competition. We highly appreciate the work done by Sindikat biciklista, which is creating better conditions both for cyclists and everyone living in Zagreb. We congratulate the Señor team for taking the Grand Prix, they truly amazed us with their solution. And finally, we would like to congratulate every young lion for inspiring us with their amazing ideas.
Tena Šarić Rukavina, Executive Coordinator at Sindikat biciklista, said: A big thank you to Iskon and HURA for choosing us as the client. We always appreciate good solutions, ideas, designs and PR strategies when sharing our values and advocating for a more sustainable traffic. We are also thankful because our 10-year anniversary is approaching, so we cannot wait to implement some of the ideas produced by the competitors.
In addition to Nikola Žinić, chairman of the jury, Iva Pregernik Jungić, Iskon representative, and Tena Šarić Rukavina, client representative, the jury consisted of Dunja Bua Maričević (Pragma komunikacije), Anamarija Juraković (Advans Adria), Alen Kekić (I to nije sve), Mario Lovrić (Studio Nexus), Fran Mubrin (404), Manuela Šola (Komunikacijski laboratorij) and Boris Zatezalo (Degordian).
The competition was also supported by Shutterstock, which opened its online base to the competitors. After an unforgettable experience at home, the Grand Prix winners will go head-to-head in the virtual global competition Cannes Young Lions and compete with the world’s best and brightest young creatives.
