Imagine winning the trickiest design competition in the country. You nailed the brief, you delivered what was asked and yet, you’re met with a storm of criticism. Welcome to the world of design, where the best intentions are often misunderstood. Of course, we’re talking about the controversial design tender for the visual identity of the City of Zagreb — and we are taking you behind the scenes at DK2025 with the minds who made it happen! Together we will consider what a design tender process really entails, how designers professionally assess other designers and why public perception is often disconnected from the complexities of design work.
Joining us is one of the authors of the winning work Boris Malešević (Designer, Designsystem), as well as Sven Sorić (President, HDD), Ira Payer (Creative Director, Superstudio) and Karlo Stojčević (Partner, Tvoj Domagoj), who will unpack the truth that most people don’t see: the invisible steps of the design process. Because let’s face it, there’s a lot more to designing a city’s identity than meets the eye. It’s going to be really interesting to see how designers follow briefs, navigate expectations and somehow make it to the finish line.
