Confronting the challenges of AI, shaping the European Union, protecting our digital privacy, and understanding the significant impact of advertising – all this and much more at this year’s DK Festival.
DK Festival, a festival of creativity and communications, will once again gather marketers, creatives, digital experts, and all communicators in Rovinj, on April 11—14. This year’s event will be supported by several Croatian and international institutions such as the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Croatian Chamber of Economy, the European Parliament, and the European Commission — some of their representatives will join the festival to share their rich experiences with us. The official festival schedule has been announced, and we will have the opportunity to engage in a series of interesting discussions on topics of great importance to the industry. Below are some of the key topics for the entire industry, as well as societal development.
I’LL BE BACK: EU VS TERMINATOR BY EUROPEAN COMMISSION IN CROATIA
What can save us from the potential downfall due to artificial intelligence? Are threats to copyright and online privacy sufficient alarms? Do we even need help against artificial intelligence if we have mostly dealt with chatbots and tools that simply help us be more creative and efficient in our work, even if those same tools utilize the work of others? The European Commission has confronted these issues in the Artificial Intelligence Act, and in the panel, I’ll Be Back: EU vs Terminator, Kristina Laco (Co-founder of Komunikacijski ured Colić, Laco i partner; HURA and IAB Croatia Board Member) and panelists Andrea Čović Vidović (Acting Head of Representation, Head of Press and Media, European Commission) and Nikola Vrdoljak (Director at 404, Partner at MYTY Group; HURA, and IAB Croatia Member) will dedicate the discussion to concrete steps for better conditions for the development and use of artificial intelligence.
HOW TO GET 370 MILLION EUROPEANS ON BOARD POWERED BY EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT, OFFICE IN CROATIA
The secret to a strong European democracy lies in voters and their willingness to vote, which is of great importance in this time of increasing geopolitical challenges. A vote is not just a checkmark on a ballot paper – it is an important step in shaping the European Union together. At DK2024, we will have the opportunity to listen to none other than the Director of Campaigns of the European Parliament — Philipp Schulmeister, in an intriguing conversation titled How to Get 370 Million Europeans on Board! Moderator Dunja Ivana Ballon (Executive Director, HURA & IAB Croatia and Festival & Program Director, DK Festival) will ask her guest key questions about how to communicate during the pre-election period, as well as how to develop political communication.
GUARDIANS OF THE DIGITAL GALAXY, ASSEMBLE! POWERED BY EUROPEAN COMMISSION IN CROATIA
We live in a world where we are losing control over our privacy in the digital environment — is it time to do our best to protect our online privacy and digital rights? The average person lacks the power to fight the control that digital platforms have over us — so who does? And how do we regain control slipping from our hands and into the hands of digital giants? Carmen Gruber (Team Leader – Communication/Partnerships and Networks, European Commission in Croatia), Andrea Čović Vidović (Acting Head of Representation, Head of Press and Media, European Commission), Alen Delić (Chief Information Security Officer, SpotMe), and Mario Frančešević (Founder/CEO, SeekandHit; Member of HURA and IAB Croatia Board) will discuss the European Commission’s struggle to regulate online privacy and digital platforms from the inception of GDPR to the Digital Markets Act and the Digital Services Act.
SPOTLIGHT ON CHILDHOOD OBESITY: ADVERTISING TO PLAY A ROLE BY UNICEF
It is a well-known fact that advertising has a significant impact on society — shaping social norms, and our habits, but the issue becomes even more serious when children are concerned. Since social media platforms are becoming important advertising platforms, can we effectively limit children’s exposure to harmful messages and protect them from ads promoting unhealthy food? In the UNICEF Croatia panel on this topic, moderator Martina Prokl Predragović (Communications consultant, UNICEF Croatia), Maja Lang-Morović (Rehabilitation Professor, Croatian Institute of Public Health), Damir Bučević (Media expert), and Mario Fraculj (IAB (Self)regulation Hub Member, Head of Economy Department at Algebra, CEO at Digital Talents) will discuss this issue.
